Key safes

LPCB approves Key safes to:-

  • LPS 1175 Requirements and testing procedures for the LPCB approval and listing of intruder resistant building components, strongpoints, security enclosures and free-standing barriers.

Unless otherwise stated, the security rating attributed to each key safe relates to the key safes’ resistance to the following methods of attack:

  • Forced entry into the key safe to remove a key stored within it.
  • Unauthorised removal of the key safe from the supporting substrate.

It is recommended that the security ratings of the key safes used to store keys are at least equivalent to those of the products (e.g. doorsets) the keys operate. This is particularly important if the key safes are located in unprotected areas, for example, on the outside of properties. This is to ensure the key safe does not compromise the resistance to forced entry provided by the products that the keys operate.
