Helping Gatwick Airport to reduce false fire alarms

Following a successful campaign to reduce false fire alarms, Gatwick Airport called on BRE to review its false alarm data and identify means of further reducing these incidents. BRE was able to make a number of recommendations and propose an operational process to address the remaining false alarms. Read more

Security glazing guidance updated

BRE Trust funded research, which followed a spate (in 2008) of smash-and-grab burglaries in London’s West End, showed that glazing can offer the least resistance to criminals (if they are not deterred by the noise). The resulting guide on selecting effective security glazing has been recently updated with minor revisions (Ref FB 55 - 2016) and published this month. Read more

CE marking of cables mandatory from July 2017

A reminder that the citing in July 2015 of product standard EN 50575 for power, control and communication cables, set the clock ticking for the mandatory CE marking of cables placed on the market in Europe from 1 July next year. Read more

Be part of the UK Pavilion at international shows

The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) is planning future international events, and wants to gauge the interest of companies in exhibiting as part the UK Pavilion at shows in Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi, Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia. Read more

Visit from SPP Pumps team

In September we hosted a visit from LPCB-approved pump manufacturer, SPP Pumps. The group included senior UK and Dubai SPP managers, consultants from Sri Lanka, and the Chief and Deputy Chief Fire Officers of the Colombo Fire Service Department. Following discussions on certification and inspection services offered by BRE Global, the group was given a tour of our fire laboratories.

BT awarded certification for supervised premises transceivers

BT has received certification for the BT Redcare Secure Mk3 supervised premises transceivers with Roaming & Fire service to LPS 1277 Requirements for LPCB Approval and listing of Alarm Transmission Equipment. Read more

Surefire’s Ultraguard gains certification to LPS 1655

Surefire is the first company to achieve certification to LPS 1655 Personal Protection Watermist Systems. These are local application watermist systems designed to protect a specific area. Read more

Fire service issues false alarm warning after spate of callouts

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has issued advice to residents and businesses in the local area after a spate of false alarm callouts. Fire crews attended 16 false alarm calls between 7am on 2 October and 7am on 3 October, the majority of which were linked to system faults with alarms of accidental activation. Read more
