Festive break

“Cable manufacturers will be left out in the cold without CE Marking”

Manufacturers risk losing out on trade opportunities in Europe without appropriate CE marking for their cable products, says BRE Global. This warning comes with just months to go to the 1 July 2017 deadline when CE marking becomes mandatory for power, control and communication cables placed on the European market. Read more

Taiwan accepts BRE Global testing

We have received approval from the Taiwanese Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of Interior (CPAMI) for testing of products to: EN 13381-8:2013 Test methods for determining the contribution to the fire resistance of structural members. Applied reactive protection to steel members, and BS 476-21:1987 Fire tests on building materials and structures. Engaging with a growing market in Sri Lanka

Kamil Hamid - the BRE Global Country Manager for India - has recently visited Sri Lanka where products and systems with independent third-party approval to British and European standards are widely accepted in a growing construction industry market. He attended the International Expo on Fire, Safety and Homeland Security, and met the Chief Fire Officer of Colombo. Read more

Delivering the third-party certification message

The well attended Passive Fire Protection Seminar in Loughborough on 26 October was run by Checkmate Fire in conjunction with Interserve Support Services. It included presentations from Ian Stewart of BRE Global on third-party certification of passive fire product installers, Alan Oliver of Checkmate on delivering a fire compliant building, and Allister Smith of Aviva on the insurer’s perspective. Security Essen 2016 - Messe Essen, Germany, 27-30 September

Security Essen is a bi-annual event covering fire prevention, cyber security, mechanical security systems, electronic security and services and perimeter security. Fire and Security Shanghai, China 9-11 November

The 12th Shanghai International Fire & Security Technology Equipment Exhibition was held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. International Director Graham Orme and China Country Manager Ming Stone manned the exhibition stand and were pleased to see many of our LPCB listed clients attending the show.

IFE Event in Dublin

BRE Global MD Debbie Smith, OBE, was among high level speakers at the recent Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) fire safety conference on The Undesigned Fire in Dublin recently. She spoke to a packed audience on ‘Understanding performance through science’. The BRE Global exhibition stand at the event highlighted the importance of independent third-party certificated products and services.

“Soul destroying” 3,000 false alarms in one year

Firefighters from Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have attended 3,000 false alarm calls in the last year, 47% of the total incidents attended by crews. The Chief Fire Officer says he is at a loss what to do, and that "people's lives are being put at risk" because of it, calling the incidents "soul destroying". Read more
