Event reports

SUPDET 2016

SupDet 2016 on 1-4 March in San Antonio, Texas addressed the latest developments in research, technology, and applications for the fire protection community. Some 120 delegates from around the world attended the discussions that covered fire suppression, fire detection and signalling research and applications. Raman Chagger of BRE Global presented the findings from his research paper on “Visual Alarm Devices - Their Effectiveness in Warning of Fire”. The research paper and a video detailing the research process and findings is available here.

Middle East Electricity, 1-3 March 2016, Dubai World Trade Centre

Middle East Electricity is a big show covering some 65,000 sqm, housing over 1,600 exhibitors from 60 countries. BRE Global’s stand was located close to many of the LPCB listed cable companies including:-

  • AEI Cables
  • Bahra Cables
  • Cavicel
  • Doha Cables
  • Ducab
  • Middle East Specialized Cables
  • Nexans
  • Nuhas Oman
  • Prysmian
  • Shakun Polymers

The stand staff were kept busy with many enquiries from specifiers and interest in the Red Book App where you can view live listings on smart phone or tablet. There has been considerable growth in the specification of third party approved cables, probably driven by the recent large scale fires in the area.

Security & Policing 2016

LPCB had a prominent stand at the Home Office event Security & Policing at Farnborough on 8-10 March, attended by invited delegates from police, law enforcement and security sectors. An excellent opportunity to highlight Red Book listed companies to high security product and service consumers, the event also enabled LPCB to promote the new ballistics protection certification scheme. One of the highlights was a new mock-up of a fictional embassy, for which several LPCB listed companies provided equipment. Read more

ISNR, 15-17 March, Abu Dhabi

BRE Global’s attendance at this show was to support the Red Book Listings and also to engage with stakeholders who may be interested in ‘BRE SABRE’, a new security assessment and certification scheme for Buildings and Infrastructure.

SABRE provides a framework to help measure, understand and improve the security performance of facilities. It provides owners and management with greater transparency and can allow them to demonstrate the facility’s security credentials to clients, investors, insurers and regulators. For more information contact Gavin.Jones@bre.co.uk.

A number of LPCB listed companies exhibited at the show including NAFFCO, Saudi Factory for Fire Equipment, Watermist Limited, Armstrong Pumps and Emirates Fire Fighting Equipment Factory L.L.C. (FIREX). Watermist Ltd took the opportunity to demonstrate their LPCB approved Fixed fire extinguishing systems for catering equipment - click here to view a brief video.
