Workshop on reducing false fire alarms

Earlier this month a BRE-led workshop - supported by BAFE and the FIA - suggested ways of implementing the recommendations of recent research into ways of preventing false alarms from fire detection systems in the UK. Read more

The Red Book App

Colin Bailey to be keynote speaker at Fire Research Conference

Professor Colin Bailey, Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of The University of Manchester, has been announced as the keynote speaker at the Fire Research Conference on 9 June. The lead expert in reviewing the structural fire design on iconic London buildings such as The Shard, The Pinnacle, Heron Tower and Leadenhall, Professor Bailey will speak on ‘Developments in the Practical Application of Structural Fire Engineering’. LPCB Red Book Security Pavilion

As part of a major new initiative at IFSEC International 2016, Europe’s leading security trade event, LPCB will be participating at this year’s IFSEC with a dedicated Red Book Security Pavilion specifically aimed at the professional security sector.

 

Mirroring the successful Red Book Pavilion in FIREX International, LPCB will use the Security Pavilion to promote its expertise and guidance in third party product testing and approvals, and provide support for Red Book listed companies exhibiting at the event. Read more

Intersec 2016

17-19 January World Trade Centre Dubai, UAE

 

This year the show was opened by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (son of the President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Emir of Dubai). Intersec 2016 saw 1,200 exhibition stands and visitors from more than 120 countries. Once again BRE Global had two stands, one in the Fire Hall and the other in the Security Hall. Read more

Landlord putting lives at risk says fire service

London Fire Brigade is offering free smoke alarms to tenants in private rented properties over fears that landlords are not complying with new regulations. In October last year, new rules were brought in requiring landlords to fit smoke alarms on each floor of their rental property, or face a fine of up to £5000. Read more

Smoke alarms still absent in some properties

A survey carried out by website spareroom.co.uk has found that as many as 1 in 5 tenants do not have a working smoke alarm in their house-share. 15% of tenants polled said they had no smoke alarm, whilst another 7% said they did have a smoke alarm, but they had removed the batteries. Read more
