CE Marking business as usual after EU referendum result

Following the UK referendum vote to leave the European Union, BRE Global remains fully committed to its customers and will continue to provide the CE marking support they need to successfully deliver their products to the market. Read more

Measuring and rating building security

A new BRE Global certification scheme called SABRE, measures and evaluates the security of buildings and infrastructure against a range of credible threats, and provides an independent security risk management rating - a SABRE Assurance Rating. Read more

Leveson rules on Lakanal fire RRO prosecutions

The High Court has concluded that the London Fire Authority should retain responsibility for deciding whether there will be prosecutions under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO), regarding the Lakanal House tower block fire in which six people died. The hearing, held before Sir Brian Leveson, President of the Queen’s Bench Division, followed a challenge by the London Borough of Southwark claiming potential conflicts of interest. Read more

EN 50575 - Cables - added to CPR NB Schedule

The standard for power, control and communications cables, EN 50575:2014+A1:2016, has been added to the BRE Global Construction Products Regulation Notified Body (CPR NB) Schedule for System 1+, Product Certification Body, and System 3, Testing Laboratory. The full Schedule can be viewed here.

Fire safety in buildings guidance compilation

A collection of BRE expert guidance on fire risk, protection and detection (ref: AP 312) has been compiled to provide a reference library of BRE Digests, Information Papers, and Good Building and Repair Guides on fire risk, protection and detection. Read more

BIM training goes International

A series of BIM courses have launched in the United Arab Emirates, India and Indonesia by BRE Academy, the training arm of BRE. Designed to provide knowledge and skills that can be applied locally whilst remaining consistent with the industry internationally, the courses are available both in-house and online at bre.ac. Fire Door Safety Week

This year’s fire safety week from 26 September to 2 October, commemorates the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London, the event that gave rise to the ‘fire door’. It will spotlight the fire door’s critical fire safety role and draw attention to common-place bad practice. More information is here (and details of a fire doors training course are below).

 

Forthcoming events

Fire India South, Chennai, India, 21-22 September

The fire and security market in India is set to grow radically in the coming years because of increasing customer awareness coupled with the implementation of strict state-level norms on fire safety. Fire India South will host key decision makers in the fire and safety Industry, connecting the entire fire safety community of manufacturers, dealers, integrators and end users. With India also seeing major growth in sustainable construction, BRE Academy has launched its online building information modelling (BIM) courses there, which will help India's built environment professionals to reap the significant benefits that BIM delivers. More

UK Security Expo 2016, Olympia, London, 30 November-1 December

BRE Global has taken a stand - No. K41 - at this new government-supported event. Through conferences, workshops and demonstrations, visitors will be able to explore security issues in the areas of design, technology and, in the event of an attack, the capacity to respond.

Insurers call for compulsory warehouse sprinklers

The Association of British Insurers is calling for sprinklers to be made a legal requirement in all new warehouses over 2,000m2, as average pay outs for commercial fires break the £25,000 barrier for the first time. Read more

The Home Office has published the first set of fire statistics since assuming control of fire services from the DCLG earlier this year. The latest figures include detail on the causes of fires, the use of smoke alarms the seasonality and temporality of fires and other topics of interest to the fire statistics community.
