New guidance on installing fire protection to structural steelwork

Advice on correctly specifying and installing passive and reactive fire protection to structural steelwork was published recently. It identifies key issues for specifiers, manufacturers, contractors and approval authorities, and highlights the importance of adequate testing, product quality, installation and maintenance, and the critical role of third-party certification schemes. Spacecraft fire safety at Fire Research Conference

The University of Edinburgh’s Grunde Jomaas will give the keynote lecture on spacecraft fire safety at the Fire Research Conference (8 June). This is one of a diverse range of topics including false alarm reduction, fire suppression innovation, fire investigations, firefighting in basements and CE marking opportunities around Brexit. Fire flashover in modern buildings explained

A new Information Paper outlines the flashover process in fires, and the factors influencing flashover occurrence and development. It provides expert information to fire risk assessors, fire safety managers and other managers with safety responsibilities, as well as community fire safety officers, firefighters and fire investigators. Promoting fire protection product certification in Sri Lanka

Graham Orme, BRE Global International Director, recently gave a presentation on the testing and certification of fire protection products to an invited audience in Colombo that included representatives of the Colombo Fire Department, consultants and building owners. Read more

Fire & Safety India, 6-8 April, Mumbai

In April BRE Global attended Fire & Safety India at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai. There is a rapidly growing demand for fire protection equipment and technology across India, with the fire and safety equipment market expected to reach around US$5 billion by the end of 2019 (India Fire & Safety Equipment Market Forecast & Opportunities). Our new LPS 1666 standard for LPCB approval of direct low pressure application fixed fire suppression systems, was of particular interest to visitors at the BRE Global stand where we were kept busy discussing LPCB listed products and services.
