New MD for BRE Global

Dr Debbie Smith OBE has been appointed as the new Managing Director of BRE Global, the certification arm of building science centre BRE which incorporates international brands such as BREEAM and LPCB. Debbie replaces Richard Hardy who takes on the challenge of driving major change projects across the Group. Read more

New manager for passive fire protection installer approval schemes

BRE Global has appointed Philip Brownhill to manage its LPCB certification schemes for installers of passive fire protection systems. The schemes ensure that installers are appropriately trained and have the necessary expertise to install or apply the product correctly in buildings and infrastructure. Read more

Second Annual BRE Fire Research Conference

The Fire Research Conference at BRE Watford on 9 June will provide insights into the latest thinking on fire safety strategies and possible trends in future legislation. Leading experts will discuss issues ranging from sprinklers in housing and wireless fire detection in prisons, to the design of open-plan flats and the safe management of industrial processes. Join us at IFSEC and FIREX

A reminder that BRE Global will have Red Book Pavilions at both IFSEC and FIREX at London’s ExCeL on 21-23 June 2016. As the UK’s leading security and fire protection events, IFSEC and FIREX provide excellent opportunities for meeting current and new customers, and promoting our product testing, training and delivery of third party certification.

Counter Terror Expo (CTX)

BRE Global attended this year’s CTX at Olympia in London on 19-20 April. It was extremely pleasing to see the number of LPCB certificated security companies also attending the show. CTX is a focused exhibition aimed at the high end security protection needed in the fight against terrorism. Read more

Poor installation dangers revealed at the Checkmate Fire seminar

A recent Checkmate Fire seminar held at BRE on Passive Fire Protection was attended by around 125 delegates, representing housing associations, NHS Trusts, consultants, facilities managers and many others. Read more

Council under fire for ‘failing’ to fine landlords over smoke alarm rules

Haringey Council has come under fire from the opposition over its ‘failure’ to enforce laws introduced last year mandating all landlords fit smoke alarms in private properties. Read more

False alarms cost service millions per year

Scottish fire chiefs in the Perthshire region are taking action in a bid to reduce the number of false alarm callouts faced by crews in the area. A report showed that Perthshire crews attended almost 300 false alarms between October and December last year, from a total of 1,137 in 2015. Read more
